Brief History of ProFauna Indonesia
Rosek Nursahid and Made Astuti, ProFauna's foundersProFauna Indonesia is a wildlife protection organization, established by Rosek Nursahid and Made Astuti in 1994 in Malang city, East Java, Indonesia. Rosek Nursahid and Made Astuti are biologists who love to visit wildlife habitats since their early time at college. The organization was formerly known as KSBK and has changed into ProFauna Indonesia since 2002.
ProFauna started because Rosek Nursahid used to see many protected animals in the markets in Jakarta. In the 1990’s, he found orangutan, siamang, cockatoo, sun bear, bird of paradise and other species, were sold freely at the markets despite the fact the animals were protected by law and the trade was illegal.
Therefore, Rosek Nursahid and Made Astuti set up ProFauna in order to work on the freedom of wild animals from cruelty and illegal trade. Since its creation, ProFauna has actively conducted campaigns and educations on wildlife protection in Indonesia.
