Kuta beach, Bali is not only well-known for sea turtles nesting beach, but also a place for stray dogs to wonder around. On 1 September 2008, the head of Kuta beach security guards (locally known as satgas) called ProFauna Bali staffs informing that there was a stray dog about to whelp. A stray dog who will deliver puppies is normal. What made the situation ‘abnormal’ and terrified the beach visitors was that the baby was ½ out and the mother wondered around the beach. The litter was probably too large for the mother to deliver.
Because ProFauna Bali staffs’ specialty is sea turtle conservation program, they contacted an organization in that concerns on Bali street dogs. ProFauna staffs felt relieve that someone from the organization would come to rescue the poor mother. Yet, the head of Kuta beach security guards called ProFauna again later on because no one came. While the mother dog had been straining unproductively, she needed urgent assistance.
Therefore, ProFauna Bali staffs who never had any experience to treat dog called ProFauna members in Bali who are graduates of veterinarian medicine; Niken (28) and Immah (25). The two young ladies went to the Kuta beach right away to save the dog. Another problem raised, because the dog was missing.
The sun had set, and the skies of Kuta beach were getting dark. Finally, the mother was found, dying. Niken and Immah had been struggling for 18 hours to help her giving birth with a cold wind blowing on the beach.
"Man Proposes, God Disposes". The mother died before Niken and Immah had the chance to perform a cesarean section. All people who were present at that time must shred tears in their hearts. But ProFauna commends Niken and Immah for their hard work. Eventhough, they were busy, the young ladies dedicated their time to voluntarily help saving the animal.
