ProFauna membantu polisi melakukan penyitaan-bagian-tubuh-harimau yang dijual di Jakarta di bulan Februari 2009.After many years conducting a range of investigations into wild animal trade in Jakarta and its environs, ProFauna opened, on 14th March 2002, a branch office in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia and a centre for wild animal trade. The city contains Asia’s largest bird market, Pramuka, in which rare and protected animals such as cockatoos, gibbons, orangutans and tigers can be found for sale with ease and regularity.
Like other ProFauna offices, ProFauna Jakarta focuses on issues surrounding wild animal trade and law enforcement. ProFauna Jakarta is also helping its members develop skills in bird monitoring. This acitivity has become one which attracts ProFauna members.
Since opening, ProFauna Jakarta has been involved in a range of confiscation operations including those done by the BKSDA Department of Forestry. In the unplanned operation held at some bird markets and private houses, the KSDA officers and ProFauna have succeeded in seizing more than 600 protected animals such as the Slow Loris, orangutan, Eagle, Javan Ebony Langur, Gibbon and many more.
ProFauna Jakarta is active in supporting the Department of Forestry in maintaining law enforcement by conducting numerous confiscations. ProFauna has also provided significant assistance to the Department by sharing with them information gathered in our investigations into wild animal trade.
Since 2007 ProFauna Jakarta office has been changed as ProFauna Jakarta Representative.
