Only One Earth, For People and Wildlife

The impacts of global warming is not only affecting people but wildlife as well. Global warming is threatening the survival of 300 species listed in the endangered list, with the greatest impact suffered by the marine wildlife.

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC) if the earth’s temperature keep rising 1,5 – 2,5 oC, then 20 – 30% of wild animals and plants will be wiped out. In the year of 2100 it is estimated that the sea surface level will rise 0,18 – 0,59 meter as the consequence of ice melting and this will lead to the disappearing of many shores, wet lands and mangrove forests. Put the water birds populates those sites for living at the stake of extinction.

IPPC predicted many marine animals will be extinct due to the global warming. The polar bears are one of endangered species facing the danger of extinction caused by the melting of polar ice. The survival of the endangered whales will also be threatened due to the decreasing amount planktons, their main prey. All sea mammals such as whales and dolphins will be at a high risk of extinction in 2100.

One of the reptiles affected by the global warming is sea turtles. Global warming will impact on the increasing temperature for the period of summer, the phenomenon of storms and flood. Later on, these disasters will damage the coral reefs then leads to the attenuation of sea turtles food supply. The escalating temperature in the shores will also affect the hatching ability of sea turtles’ eggs.
