"Hunting" Java Sparrows in the City Squares

Berburu Gelatik Jawa di Tengah Kota

Monday morning, 27 June 2010, ProFauna’s supporters (local volunteers) went to the city squares of Malang which is also the shopping center at the city. They went there not to shop or have fun but to "hunt" the Java Sparrows. They didn’t use rifles to get the birds, but they used binoculars instead because they had bird watching, a regular activity held by ProFauna’s supporters.

Lucky for them because the weather was clear and many birds sang between the branches of the banyan trees and flowers at the squares. Unfortunately, they didn’t find what they were hunting, the Java Sparrow. In fact, it was easy to find Java sparrow there three years ago. However, the supporters were happy enough to watch these following beautiful birds:

  • The Scaly-breasted Munia (Lonchura punctulata)
  • The Eurasian Tree Sparrow (Passer montanus)
  • The Oriental White-eye (Zosterops palpebrosus)
  • The Yellow-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier)
  • The Javan Munia (Lonchura leucogastroides)
  • The Spotted Dove (Streptopelia chinensis)
  • The Ruddy Cuckoo-dove (Macropygia emiliana)
  • Ashy Tailorbird (Orthotomus ruficeps)
  • The Sooty-headed Bulbul (Pycnonotus aurigaster)

Thank you for the supporters who have joined the bird watching. Don’t miss the coming WAW (Wild Animal Watching)!
