Wildlife Conservation Training for Supporters of ProFauna 2010

Wildlife Conservation Training for Supporters of ProFauna 2010

23 ProFauna’s supporters who come from different regions of Indonesia like Malang, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bali, and Bengkulu learned about wildlife conservation knowledge in a training held by the organization in ProFauna’s education center, Petungsewu Wildlife education Center (P-WEC), and on the camping site in the foothills of Kawi Mountain on 26 and 27 February 2010.

The outdoor training provided the participants with basic knowledge of wildlife and forest conservation, wildlife protection laws, bird watching, and ProFauna’s history. The participants followed the annual training enthusiastically, even though rain fell in the afternoon of the first day.

Most participants were excited listening to the brief history of ProFauna. They were amazed to the fact that ProFauna has been established as an organization initiated by only two Indonesians co-founders from ‘zero’ situation to going internationally. Another topic interested the participant much was the forest education, presented by P-WEC’s educators. They were taught about and practiced out how on exploring forests. Although some participants were veterinary and biology students, they had little knowledge about forest itself.

The participants enjoyed the training more when two co-founders of ProFauna, Rosek Nursahid and Made Astuti joined the event and camped together with them in the forest. The supporters had a great time sharing ideas with the co-founders during the training. A participant from Jakarta expressed his amazement, "ProFauna is amazing. I hope ProFauna can develop better and be financially stronger so that it can save more wildlife and forests in Indonesia".

In the end of the training, all of the participants and trainers made a circle and held each other hand. Excitingly they raised their hands in the air and yelled, "ProFauna, Yesss!"
